Yong Maeng Jong Jin: to leap like a tiger while sitting

The retreats are silent, in our mountain Zen Center located in the middle of nature, in the incredible Natural Park of the Alta Garrotxa in the Pyrenees, the ideal place for a retreat. Participants follow an intensive schedule of sitting and walking meditation, chanting, prostrations and formal meals, in which one tries to keep alive the practice of attention at all times. We all practice together, benefiting from the spectacular surroundings, extraordinary energy of the mountains, fresh air and spring water. All our meals are vegetarian, based on fresh, local, seasonal, organic produce (often from our own garden).

Jo-Alma Potter JDPSN was born in Arizona 1954 and grew up in a Mexican-American family.  She studied clinical nutrition and graduated from Arizona State University. She began to practice meditation when she was seventeen years old and traveled to India in early 1980.  She began to study Zen and Buddhism in India.
In 1986, she moved to Berlin Germany, living there for 25 years, learned the German language and worked for a financial office. She met Zen Master Seung Sahn and his teachings in the early 1990s and intensified her meditation practice in the Kwan Um School of Zen with Zen Master Seung Sahn and his successors. She worked as the Abbot of the Berlin Zen Center from 1995 until 2006 and helped to build and establish that Zen Center. In 2008, she  received the title Ji Do Poep Sa and Inka –the official seal of approval to teach kong-an– from Zen Master Wu Bong.  She has traveled worldwide leading and teaching Zen retreats. She lives in Vienna now since 2013 and directs her energy to establish and teach in the Vienna Zen Center.  She guides the Kwan Um Zen Groups in Vienna, Palma de Mallorca, Hungary and Mexico City.

Gu Ja SSN (Dharma Master Namhee Chon) was born in 1960 in South Korea. She holds a Master’s degree in Philosophy and Sinology from the Free University of Berlin.  Before she met the teachings of Zen Master Seung Sahn in 1989 in Warsaw, she learned Yoga and meditation in India. Together with her husband she established the Zen Center in Berlin in 1990 and later the Kwan Um School of Zen of Germany.  She received Inka in May 2008 from Zen Master Wu Bong and Transmission in April 2017 from Zen Master Bon Shim, is the Abbess of the Kwan Um School of Zen, Germany.  Gu Ja SSN now works as a lecturer at the Free University of Berlin, and lives with her family near Berlin.

From Argelaguer (the last village) there is a 22 kilometers of scenic dirt road, with beautiful views and deep cliffs, that takes you to secluded Bori Sa.

You can carpool/rideshare in, hike in, or arrange a pick up in Argelaguer’s bus stop (only the day the retreat starts or ends. 15€ x person).
